Obituary of Darrell L. Mann

Mann-Darrell L. Mann, who was born Oct. 1 1930 in Hobart Oklahoma. He attended schools in Hobart until the age of 17 when he decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted on March 16 1948. He first served on the USS Taussig during the Korean War. He was assigned to the Great Lakes where he met his wife Helen Bayuk of Racine Wisconsin. They were married on Nov. 12 1955.

Darrell decided submarines would be the next choice of Navy Life and was sent to New London Ct. for training serving on the USS Croaker, Groton Ct., the USS Medregal, Pearl Harbor Hawaii, and the James Madison. He transferred back to Groton as an instructor at the Submarine School retiring on April 16 1968 as a Chief Petty Officer.(CPO)

In civilian life, he had a service station in Norwich. He moved to New Hampshire where he had many different jobs, mostly driving school busses. Returning back to Connecticut he and his wife started a new venture of RVing spending 6 months traveling, and the other 6 months in Connecticut where he worked at Foxwoods Casino. Besides his wife Helen, Darrell is survived by a daughter Shannon Frazier of Vancouver Washington, a son Raymond Mann of Kingman Arizona, and a daughter Jeanne Platt of Canterbury Connecticut. He also leaves 7 granddaughters, Heather Platt of Hampton, Kimberly Platt of Canterbury, Amber McClurg (Shawn) of Hampton, Tasha Pendergast and Ashley Mann of New Hampshire, Kasey Garcia, and Kristy Fine of Vancouver Washington. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.
