On patrol when standing watch in control on midwatch it seemed like the O2 level was higher. How do I know this? Well I would lite a smoke and Puff it was to the filter. Hell I would go through a half a pack in 6 hours. So the question was did the boys in charge crank it up to keep awake or another reason?

During our patrols, the O2 bleed wasn't varied much during the week, but it was cut back a little on Saturday evening. Since we didn't (normally) do drills on Sunday, the lower O2 made everyone get lots of sleep until we opened the bleed again Sunday night midwatch for the Monday morning mayhem.
The smoking part, which I still carry to this day, is the ability to smoke 2 to the butt in 5 minutes without getting dizzy. I think it's a carryover from Nuke Power School..........
