* This poll will remain open until and through November 30, 2009.
* The top three choices from Round 1 (see here have moved to this second round. In the second round, everyone will be able to vote for only one (1) choice. Costs and arrangements would be similar in each of these three locations. You may want to do some comparison shopping for travel arrangements.
* They are listed in alphabetical order here.
* If you'd like to "campaign" on behalf of one of these locations, please reply here to make that information known to others who will be voting.
* If you have no preference, please indicate that. It's good to know that a broad number had the chance to voice a preference, even if they had none.
* For reference, past locations were: 2004 - Charleston SC, 2005 - Jacksonville FL/Kings Bay Ga, 2007 - New London CT, 2009 - Bremerton WA

VERY IMPORTANT: If you are a former Madison sailor and/or a member of Reunion Association and cannot login and have your vote counted, send an email to website@ussjamesmadison627.com NOW to make it so you can. Do not wait until the voting closes and then say "oh there was a problem". I am not set up to take votes by email.

I was the one who suggested Newport News as the site of the 2011 reunion at the association meeting held at the Bremerton reunion. I hope all of the Madison crew will vote and that you will seriously consider Newport News when you vote. Remember that the first reunion was held at Charleston, our long time home port; then at Kings Bay, a major East coast sub base; next at New London, where many of us trained and where many went through the ordeal of extended overhaul; and the last was at Bremerton, a major West coast sub base. Remember, though, that this long journey started at Newport News. Let's complete the circle and go there for the 2011 reunion. I'd like to see the shipyard and the changes after more than 45 years. In addition, Newport News is close to the Norfolk Naval complex, and is not too far from Montpelier and Williamsburg. There's lots to see and do in that area. Then in 2013 let's go back to Charleston.

As much as I Love Charleston, I am willing to give Norfolk a try. I know Laura Gehm, Aaron's (Bubba) wife, had offered to help plan one in Norfolk when it was suggested at the New London Reunion. She works for a Hotel/Convention Center, so she would be a great one to help with the accommodations if she is still so employed. Bubba works @ the Shipyard, so he may be able to pull some strings as well.

I love Charleston but for variety and to commemorate those horrible years in the shipyard, I'm voting for Newport News.

I first set foot on the Jolly Dolly in Newport News, and would be all for holding the reunion there.

Personally, I am in favor of Newport because I think Williamsburg is kind of pricey for a reunion, folks could still travel there if they wanted to visit it.

I have many fond (and some not so fond) memories of Charleston. But it's just not the same since all of our cultural centers disappeared; Anchor, 5 & 25, Brass Rail, etc. I vote for Norfolk/Newport News. However, I'll attend anywhere.

I vote for Newport News. I haven't been there and would like to see the area.

If the Norfolk area is the choice for the next reunion Laura and I can help with the planning. Just let us know what you need. Sorry we missed the last reunion could not escape testing on USS Tucson SSN-770

As you can see, the poll has now done and it appears that Charleston will be the location for our 2011 Reunion.

Although many of us "fondly" recall Never Again Volunteer Yourself, the reunions go better when you have some folks on the ground ahead of time to set things up. So any of you Charleston area folks available and willing to help out?

Had a note from Fred Huwe and the dates have been set. The 2011 Reunion will run from Wednesday, June 22 through Saturday, June 25, 2011.

More details to follow.
