Reunion 2009 is History but 2011 is just around the corner

If you weren't there, then it's sad being you.

Had a great time. Lots of great folks and some honest to goodness "this really happened" stories to be shared. The Pacific Northwest is beautiful. Our tour of the Trident Training Facility and the SSBN 726 class ship were terrific. (I'm going to hold off a few days -- and ask you to do the same -- on identifying which boat we toured.)

We just got home an hour or so ago. Look for notes from the folks who were there to pop up here.

Just a heads up. We will be voting on locations for 2011. We had a list of about 8 places that came up. We will be doing a two stage vote to narrow the list of 8 down to 3 and then choosing from the 3. Watch for it. (I will also add a place to signify you have no preference.) This year's location (a great one!) was chosen by only a few of our membership.

We, too, had a great time. We arrived home last night about 7:30 PM central time. It's good to be home, but we sure hated to leave all our old and new friends. We wish more would participate, from all over this great country of ours, but we do understand that with the economy, some still working, etc., it can be difficult. As Keith said, the scenery was beautiful, but we didn't have as much time to check it out as we would have liked. If we ever get out there again, we will stay longer. Hope all make it home safely and we will be in touch again soon.

I THINK A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL WHO ATTENDED AND THAT NEW STORIES WERE GENERATED THAT WILL BE REPEATED AT FUTURE GENERATIONS. BY FAR I THINK THAT THIS WAS THE BEST ONE WE'VE HAD AND THAT THE NEXT ONE WILL SURPASS THIS ONE

It was indeed a great reunion, and delighted so see some new folks from my days on the boat who had not attended before. You see someone and immediately use their nickname from the boat and it was just natural. Megger was a hoot and Nicky Romano. Bremerton Base USSVI did a great job in conducting the Tolling of the Boats which provide a somber moment to the reunion as we paused to remember those who served before us. We also read a list of known Madison sailors who have gone on Eternal Patrol. Congrats to Fred and Charline for all their work and Don Mills and others who helped locally.
The Board Members are:
Fred Huwe-President
Gil Raynor- Vice President
Bob Thompson Treasurer
and by acclimation
Charline Huwe as secretary.

The business meeting will come out in minute form, but it was well conducted, Fred kept it under control and conducted in a timely manner. The banquet was great and we all enjoyed Capt. Skoogs talk and were dutifully impressed as he listed many of the Madison commissioning officers and the positions they obtained later in their careers.

A group of us went to the Horse and Cow and raised a toast in memory of Joey Ashley. Those who attended the Groton reunion will remember Dan and Vickie who were our guest speakers there.
I can recommend the Silverdale Beach Hotel, they took care of everything we asked them to do with a smile and great attitude and the staff was very accomodating.

Now we start planning the next one!
