Reunion 2009

Post by Board Admin » Mon Jun 25, 2007 9:17 pm

Yes, some of us aren't yet home from Reunion 2007 and the discussion begins for 2009.

Several locations were mentioned at the 2007 Reunion Business meeting and your input is solicited.

We've posted the 4 locations mentioned at the meeting but other options can be considered.

Criteria for selection:
  • Accessibility via air or other transport
  • Ability to hold to our chartered goals under 501(c)19, i.e., honoring our shipmates
  • Reasonable costs for attendees
  • Availability of meeting, lodging and dining facilities
  • Previous selections have included significance in 627 history but is not a requirement
This is the official poll. Select whichever location you prefer and click submit. If it shows you numbers, it means you've already voted.
This poll is open to Reunion Association members and non-members.
You must be logged in to the forums to vote in this poll.

I see that some folks are suggesting "other" locations as their preference but I'm not seeing the reply here to tell us what "other" place you have in mind.

Add my vote

Cast my vote for Bremerton WA. The pole look like it was closed. Bremerton, Washington should be the next choice because it gives the guys on the west coast a chance to meet people from the crew. I live in the middle so I can go to either coast so its just my 2 cents about it.

I like the Newport News area for reasons already posted. Could not find the "official poll" to cast a formal vote!

King's Bay - Last Chance to tour a Boomer?

Post by jimboom » Thu Sep 13, 2007 2:58 am

A former Officer of the Madison has just taken over as Commanding Officer Trident Refit Facility. He was Commanding Officer of King's Bay Submarine Base when we had our 2005 reunion in Kings's Bay & arranged for our tour of the Boomer there. We may not have another chance like this, as all former C.O.'s will probably be retired by 2011 when we have our next reunion. Let's take advantage of our "in" while we have it & go to the other places later!

Poll of top 2?

Post by jimboom » Thu Sep 13, 2007 3:10 am

Are we going to narrow the field down to 2 & re-vote? Only 1/3 have voted for the West Coast, and the East coast votes are being split between 2 locations.

Perhaps this former Madison Officer who has just taken over as CO Trident Refit Facility and was CO of King's Bay Submarine Base could contact his colleague at Bangor and help us arrange something there. In addition, we might be able to tour the submarine disposal facility at Bremerton. Any other thoughts about this. Ron Warnick

IMHO, for what it's worth, I say we shouldn't have a second vote. What it is is what it is. A simple majority should be all that is needed to decide- this isn't a 3rd world presidential election requiring a 51% count to win.

I can say that over the course of my lifetime I will not be able to attend every reunion we have, regardless of how wonderful and fun and at times educational they are. Be it locale or finances or health or whatever, some restriction is sometimes going to apply. Thus far, by having our reunions in Charleston, King's Bay and Groton we have inadvertently excluded many that could have attended but were restricted from doing so. We knew it was going to happen- we discussed it in Jax and before that in Chaston.

So if the "westies" outvote us, so be it. It is what it is.

Second vote on 2009 reunion

Post by Fred/Charline Huwe » Sun Sep 16, 2007 1:10 am

It was decided at the meeting in Groton that we would have a poll vote and locations were made and accepted. No second vote was even brought up. There will not be a runoff vote. I do not have a preference on location but maybe the west coast people may decide to be more active in the future reunions(George Roberts, you & your brother in law are exceptions). No matter where the location, a lot of us will be there. If you want to "E" mail me, my address is fchuwe@cheqnet.net. Thank you. Sincerely Fred Huwe. Association President
