Here are some names I haven't found on the list.

Gerald "Huck" Asbury. FTBC during the '79-'82 overhaul and Blue Crew DASO. Was an exam writer in Pensacola at some time afterward.

John Huck. FTBC on the Gold crew and went throught the '79-'82 overhaul. Also rode the Calhoun and Vallejo I think.

Ricky Wayne Taylor. Blue Crew. MT2 77-82?. Rick was discharged and went to work for RCA in Germany I think.

Gary Knoth. Blue Crew. MT2 '74?-79. Transferred to the Hunley rather and went to Diego Garcia. Met him again at POMFLANT in '82.

William Ringquist. Blue Crew. FTB. My first LPO on Madison. He was living in the Jacksonville, FL area.

James Huss. MT1 on the Blue Crew in the mid ot late 70's. Retired as MTCS I think. Don't disconnect your EAB hose when Jim is at the end of the "daisy chain."

Mike McDaniel. MT1 on the Blue Crew. Joined the Madison prior to departing the shipyard in '82. Selected as a submarine ordnance LDO in '88 or '89, the two year group selection blip. Mike was also a good friend of Chester Brister, another MT1 who joined Madison prior to departing the shipyard. Chester retired as a MTCS. He passed away several years ago.

That's enough for now.

After going through the webpage list I remember some more crewmembers not on it.

FTB2(SS) Henry Clay. Henry reported to the Madison in the shipyard, probably late '79 or early '80. He was from Paducah, KY if I remember correctly.

FTB2(SS) Cliff Jackson. Cliff made patrols on the Gold Crew as an MT then shipped STAR or SCORE and converted to FTB during the shipyard. Later, when the MT rate become the only strategic weapons rate, Cliff converted back to MT. I last saw Cliff at the SWFLANT Detachment, Charleston (formerly POMFLANT) in the latter 90's before the Det was disestablished.

FTB1 Scott Harry. Joined the boat in the shipyard. I think Scott was a tender Sailor prior to joining the Madison. I think he detached from the Navy before the shipyard period ended.

FTB2 James Thirkill. Not sure if Jim got qualified or not by TADing to another submarine during the yard period. He reported to the Madison in the shipyard but was picked up for a Naval Aviation officer program and departed prior to the end of the yard period. I seem to recall seeing some naval message traffic with a CDR James Thirkill as a POC in the late 90's.

FTB1(SS) Alfred Spencer "Pete" Peterson. He made Blue crew patrols in the mid to late 70's. Believe he separated from the Navy in '79 prior to the shipyard or just after entering the shipyard. The FTB division when I first reported aboard consisted of FTCS(SS) Stafford, FTB2(SS) Ringquist, FTB2(SS) Peterson, FTB2(SS) Ammons and FTB3(SS) Truckenbrodt. I was the "nub" FTB for four patrols and also did some FTG/TM work (BST Buoys and Torpedo loads).

FTCS(SS) Jan David Stafford. Blue crew. My first Division LCPO. We played roller hockey together for years at a skating rink on Ashley Phosphate road. Great friend. Transferred to SubTraFac Charleston in '79 prior to Madison departing for the shipyard.

FTCS(SS) John Newby. Blue Crew. The Weapons Department LCPO when I checked onboard Madison in '77. John was an MT but as most know when you made senior chief back then you became an FT. I served with him again after I was commissioned and reported to the Holland in '91 where he was again the Weapons Department LCPO.

MT1(SS) Jerry Augustine. Gold crew. Jerry made patrols prior to the shipyard period and completed the yard period including DASO I believe before separating. I ran into Jerry about ten years ago at one of the Kings Bay clubs one evening when he was doing some ACTDUTRA as a reservist. I think he was a MTCS by then. He was living in Michigan.

There are many more I remember that are not listed, but I'll end this for now.

I noticed a couple of Texans are not on the list:

Joe Ed Peterson, Blue 75' thru at least 78', Nuke ET, at least 2nd class but probably 1st class. Made at least all 6 patrols that I did. Was a guitar player from Waco, Texas that liked playing John Denver music.

Harper Perkins, one of the blue crew's culinary specialists. Great midrats cook - always trying to make the hottest chili. Made perfect "grape jack" (best patrol wine I ever tasted!). Was also from Texas & a Dallas Cowboys fan.

Chip, do you think Joe Ed Peterson might be Joe E Pederson? The personnel lists showed him as an ETN2. Do you think Harper Perkins might be MS2 Donald H Perkins?

The combination of reading poor copies and transcription errors makes it hard to be sure of the exact identity of some of these folks. Although the records had SSNs after 1970, they were covered in the lists I saw for privacy reasons.

Keith,

Donald H Perkins is probably Harper & Joe E Pederson is probably the Joe Ed that I knew. The time frame & ranks look right but I thought Joe Ed's last name was spelled with a "t".

Thanks

Going through the crew list and noticed one of my weapons officers, LT Terry Michael (Mike) Shaltz was not listed. He was Madison Blue Weps when I reported in '85 for my second tour. Mike was my boss later on at CSG-6 staff then transferred to OIC of Charleston Torpedo Facility. Retired as a LCDR. He lives in Roscommon, MI.

Also just recently located FTCS(SS) Jan David Stafford who is on the crew list. He was my first LCPO on Madison Blue in '77. He currently lives in Goose Creek, SC.

Wow, does time fly. I've been wondering what happened to "Dad", LT DJ Smith. One of the officers Big Steve (and everybody) trusted to know stuff.
A submarine is the starship of today. That said, a lotta people think they're propelled by nuclear power. Nope. It's sweat.

The LT was my advocate for at least one, maybe two, of the chats I had with Captain Miller in the wardroom.

Uhhh - I didn't know you had to do that.

Was one of them when you were asked about re-enlisting and told the Skipper you'd "rather bag grogeries in the Sangaree Bi-Lo than do this shit again"?

Smith was great. I behaved rather badly in his presence during a drill, realized what I'd done and apologized for my unprofessional conduct. The only other time I did something like that, I had no choice, because Cpt Weed had summoned me to find out how we pumped San 2 without the EOOW's permission...

The listing is for Andy White listed as missing.
I’ve looked many times for him but no luck.
He was onboard blue-crew with me 65 -66 time frame as a sins ET. He was from New York as was a cook by the name of Brown. Brown was a Caucasian and White was black. This statistic led to many many remarks and good natured jokes yelled in and out of the galley window. This was enjoyed by all on the mess decks

I have not heard from either one since i was transferred to instructor at ET-A school Great Lakes NTC.

Good job on the site to all involved
