Trim Party

I was on the 1200 - 1800 watch in the ERUL realizing that my time in the navy was growing shorter every day and if I wanted to see a trim party I would have to do something soon. Although I had heard of a trim party I had never seen nor participated in one so I decided to give it a try. I informed everyone in the engineering spaces to meet at 7pm in the torpedo room for a trim party. Then I called every major watch station on the boat (launcher, radio, sonar, nav center, etc.) and simply said, "Trim party - 7 o'clock - torpedo room."

After supper I went to the lounge and waited for 7. When I got to the torpedo room I couldn't believe how many were there. The majority of all "E-6 and below" not on watch were all there. We even had an officer with us and the rest of them cheering us through the open wardroom door. Someone up forward had done a great job of taking over organization. They even had the quartermaster calling to inform us of all actions by the diving officer.

After a couple of round trips between the engineroom and torpedo room we dispersed through operations upper level waving good bye to the diving officer. The OD & Chief-of-the-watch were both kicked back in their seats with big grins while the diving officer was sitting on the opposite side of the con with his head between his elbows.

I want to thank my old shipmates for making a trim party a reality to me.

Hey Chip, why didn't you call me, I probably slept through the party or must have been on watch!
