I did the Blues first 6 patrols plus the Cape shot of the A3. I was plankowner. Our first patrol was 88 days left Charleston on the first patrol and then the rest out of Rota.

Jim Nugent here, former MT1 (SS)....Blue crew 1963-69. Commissioning crew. Did sea trials, cape shot and first 9 blue patrols...rode boat into EB for Posiden conversion and left the navy for civilian life. Good to see posts from some of the old timers looking forward to the '07 reunion.

I remember the 88 days of hell. I'm sure there are more of you out there who remember. Evap problems. Anyone remember the finger printing when we got back to Kingsbay?

"8-K evap still working great in October '78!" (that's when I last saw & operated it). Can't say the same for the 2-K farther aft. Should've told those turkeys up forward to lay off the hollywood showers!

Great Pic Vic! Some other names that made patrols before and after me, RMCM(SS) Doug Parrish, and Harry Lee Williams. And there was as a QMC that had made somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 to 14 patrols. Cannot remember his name.

I know ET1 Carey McLellan also did 6 years on the Mad Dog in the 80's.
MMC Cheney was back for his 2nd tour on the Madison in the mid-80's also.

Clyde (Chip) Porter wrote:6 patrols was not an uncommonly high number. I also did 6 but I remember quite a few that were aboard before me and still there after I left. Some of those include: Kelly Ray, Victor Madison, Bob Clements, Charlie Plotz, Mr. Fisk, Jim Whitmire, and Gary Rhoades. Most of the ones that their first patrol was the same as my first patrol were still crewmembers when I left the Navy.

Chip, I found this photo in a pile of dust. Looks like I might be able to make a seal with an OBA or ALB Mask, you think? Surprisingly, I remeber all of the names you listed.

Ended up serving three different tours on Madison. Made four patrols before ERO in Newport News, then DASO. Back to the Madison in '85 for three more patrols. Short cycled to the Adams out of Holy Loch after making Chief for three runs before returning to Madison after Adams Strat Offload for three more patrols. So ten patrols on Madison. Longest was close to 90 days in the 80s after getting extended for ten days after another boat could not make it's underway due to material issues.
