O, Time, let me pass you by;
Let me again feel the heat of July.
Let me linger on the river bank
Until the sun sinks out of sight
And leaves me there to slumber
To sounds of a summer night.
Let me again run down a dirt lane,
In the midst of a pouring April rain.
Let the mud splash my pants
And seep into my shoes;
Let the rain beat my body,
Let it pound, let it bruise!
Grant me time until September,
So someday, I can remember
The beauty of another autumn day.
Though I doubt the splendor of its colors,
Even under the brightest sun,
Will by very far outshine any others.
Give me an hour of another winter;
Her breath is harsh, but her love is tender.
So hear me, Time, please grant me this,
Let next winter thrill me with her kiss!
Perhaps then I’ll be satisfied
And not beg again for such foolish bliss.
