This is a true story song...Those who were there can relate...Those who were not might be able to relate as well...LOL...This has to be sung in a "Bob Dylan" voice...It's in his style.

BATTERY WELL SONG

Well early one morning...or it could have been night..
I was sitting in the library...trying to write...
When all of a sudden I hear the general alarm...
I think to my self, what the hells going on?
FIRE IN THE BATTERY WELL...was the next word passed...
Is this for real? Or just a drill? I better grab me a mask...
I run into the lounge and what did I see?
There was two or three Nukes and twelve MT's...
They were whiter than ghost's, when they looked up at me...
And they were giving it hell, slinging EAB's...
Ol' Crash Collision came out of that well in such a flash...
Hell we had no damn idea, that Crash could move that fast...
The good Commander came down and said "Where's my Engineer"?
Someone shouted, he's in the Torpedo room, and his purpose is clear...
He's got his patrol hat and shoes on, and a PB&J in his hand...
He's saying "Adios Mother Feckers, catch me if you can"?

I spent a lot of time in that battery well. Fortunately, every movement I made was slow. Thank, God!

I still remember the incident well after all these years, and was one of those who listened to you sing this song in the ship's lounge and maybe on halfway night as well. CDR Clarke (XO) took charge at the scene and ordered the plastisoled CO2 extinguisher placed through the battery hatch and set to continuous discharge - then shutting the hatch while monitoring the battery well.

I remember standing below decks watches and checking damper D-5 and that funny little battery well airflow indicator. Spent a lot of time in that library. There were a lot of interesting books. Good memories!
