Poems and Prose

Post by RDMyers »

Hello to All! I was the blue crew M-Div leading first from 1986 until we decommissioned the Dolly.

But during those long patrols when I should have been inspecting the engine room as the EWS, I wrote a poem. I figured this was the best place to post it. If there's somewhere better on this site, feel free to move it.

Ode to a Submarine Patrol
To those who served the silent service,

In the bowels of the beast I do stroll
Noting magnitudes, minor and might.
Monotony! Take me whole!
I know not whether tis day or night.
I yearn to see the sun again.
To breathe fresh air anew!
Release me from this wretched den.
My hopes and dreams askew.
I must concede there was a time
I desired adventure and pride.
The first of these I've yet to see.
The second, I fear, has died.
My fondest wish I have for now
Should madness stay at bay,
To see the ones I love the most.
Thank God! Just one more day.
