Lawrence "Larry" Elmer 1953 - 2016
HOLLY LAKE RANCH, TX - Larry was born in Utica, NY, to Ruth and Bernard Elmer on November 29, 1953, and passed away peacefully on December 24, 2016.
He attended Marist College. He joined the Navy in 1975 as a nuclear submariner on the U.S.S. James Madison, SSBN 627. He was Honorably Discharged in 1982 and went to work for TXU, where he became an Electrical Training Instructor at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Station. He worked increasingly challenging Information Technology roles prior to leaving TXU in 1998, having worked his way up to Director of Information Technology. He ultimately retired in April 2013 as the Sr. Director of IT Infrastructure for the University of Texas Systems.
He is survived by his wife, Debbi, of Holly Lake Ranch, TX; his children, Christine Trowell (Aaron), Marcus Elmer, Regan Mort (Paul) and Tucker Cappella; his mother, Ruth Elmer, of Manlius, NY; his three grandchildren; and siblings, Mary Beth Elmer (Peter Baskin), Shelley Hovey (Jim) and
Matt Elmer. He was predeceased by his father, Bernard, and sister-in-law, Kellie Elmer.
The family would like to thank the doctors and caregivers who traveled the cancer journey with
Larry and Debbi. We thank Hospice of East Texas for their caring support during the past two months.
You all do a demanding and difficult job and there is a special place for all of you in our hearts.
