LCDR/MMCS(SS) James 'Jim' George Yates departed on Eternal Patrol on February 6th. His obit:

James “Jim” George Yates, 63, of Summerville, husband of Carol J. Yates passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Trident Medical Center. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 2 o’clock PM. Mr. Yates was born June 29, 1952 in Laramie, WY son of Elaine Pitsitos Yates Nix of Fletcher, OK and the late Owen B. Yates. Mr. Yates retired as a Machinist
Mate Senior Chief after 20 years of service in the US Navy. He served on the USS Bonefish, USS James Madison and USS L Y Spear He graduated from
Kingfisher High School in Oklahoma, received his Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and received a Master’s Degree in Education
from the Citadel. He was a member of the Submarine Veterans Association, Lifetime Member of the American Spaniel Club and a lifetime member of the Carolina Cocker Club, Inc. He had a passion for music and enjoyed the harmonica, playing banjo and wearing silly hats. He was a Guidance
Counselor for Charleston County School District for 18 years serving at Middleton High School, West Ashley High School and Academic Magnet School.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The National Kidney Foundation, 5300 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406 or Frances Willis SPCA, 136 4 Paws Lane, Summerville, SC 29483. Survivors include his wife Carol and his mother Elaine and one sister and one brother: Jolaine Travis of
Choctaw, OK and Bruce Yates (Rita) of California; 2 half-brothers: John Bogensberger and Joe Bogensberger; one half-sister: Cherie Biedron. A
