MEZZACAPO, Gerard F. "Jerry," 68, of Spring Hill, Fla., died Thursday, September 30, 2010, at his

home. He was born in Jamaica, N.Y., and came to this area nine years ago from Ohio. He was an electronics technician for the Deptartment of Air Force, a U.S. Navy veteran, past president of the Spring Hill Amateur Radio Club, and member of Spring Hill Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph. Survivors include his wife, Judith; son and daughter, James Mezzacapo and Lauren Mezzacapo both of Tampa; sister, Ollie Doncaster of Port Orange, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Cody, Kiersten, Kendra and Bella. Visitation for friends will take place 3-6 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Merritt Funeral Home, Spring Hill Chapel. A memorial service with Military Honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2010, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society . Arrangements are made by Merritt Funeral Home

Gerard ("Jerry") Mezzacapo served aboard the Madison from May 1967 until October 1968.

Jerry's legacy guest book was down for a bit, but is available now for those who wish to express their condolances or remembrances of Jerry. It means so much to families when their loved ones are remembered.
