Obituary
Michael Howard Bailey, 79, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Trinity Village in Hickory.

Born May 14, 1939 in Dayton, OH, he was the son of the late Martha Frost Bailey and Michael Bailey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Jerry Bailey.

Mr. Bailey was of the Catholic faith and had retired as an engineer with the United States government and also retired from the Navy as a decorated war veteran. He served in the Vietnam war, received the merit of the purple heart, was part of the Game Wardens of Vietnam, the Mobile River Force, Fleet Reserve, Submarine Service at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, a member of the VFW Post 1957, American Legion Post 0209, Sub Vets and the Holland Club.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonda Reynolds Bailey; daughter, Holly Bailey Townsend; two grandsons: Michael Brian Bailey and Jason Allen Bailey; and two sisters: Barbara and Jeanna.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018 in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory with Father Larry LoMonaco officiating with full military honors by the U.S. Navy and Caldwell County Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Glade Creek Baptist Church in Sparta, NC.
