Just in case some were wondering how to get a photo as an avatar. All
you have to do is upload your digital photos to a picture hosting website
and enter the info on your personal profile.
There is a free hosting website that makes it really easy to post pictures
in online forums. www.photobucket.com Just follow the promps.
If I can do it, anyone can!

Wrong!! I've tried it and it doesn't work. :smt011

Ok, I've vented. Now:

I have a pic at photobucket.com. I went to my profile and copied the url from photobucket.com into the 'link to off-site avatar' block, and clicked submit. No avatar, no 'current image'. No reason, no instruction. Nothing. Zip. Nada. WTF!?!????

This is one of the reasons I really hate computers- "just do this...." they say. Bite me. "It's easy, anyone can do it....." Bite me again.

Any computer geeks out there? :smt102 Anyone willing to help the computer ignorant through this? I'm not ashamed to look stoopid if someone else can benefit from it. :smt100 And trust me- only very, very patient people need apply.......computers hate me, too.

If you have a picture, send it to website@ussjamesmadison627.com
I'll make arrangements to get it loaded up on this server and send you the link you need to make it your avatar.

Russ,
I had to see if the avatar thing still works. So I uploaded a current
photo to photobucket and pasted the url into my profile. I now have
a current photo for my avatar.
Don't know what you did wrong, but it works for me!

Bwahahahahaaaaaaaaaa!!! Freakin' nuc, my a$$!!!

So, for everyone else, the section of the photo that I used was too large pixel-wise. The avatar is limited to 80x80 pixels, but my pic was 180x180-ish. You don't need some fancy software to fix this- in fact what you need is probably already on your computer. It's called "Paint" and is very easy to use to adjust your picture size.

And I didn't figure this out on my own- a computer geek at work helped me out. He's really good at not getting pissed off when crap doesn't work right.

Joe Chay,

Your picture freaked me out, blast from the past. I was a newbie in 73 but remember you as one of the "cool guys". we didn't have a clue what was going on so we watched and acted like you guys and stayed in trouble. We called you Joey though not Joe. I remember Garton as well. I've been out of touch with most everyone except John Forrester. You probably don't remember me. I was known as Leroy because I was always looking for a fight. (real punk back then), worked back aft (MM Nuc) for Chief Mayer (Oscar). Came on board late 72, left in 77.

Leroy,

Nice to hear from you but I can't get a picture of you....the name sounds familiar. I am sure if I think about it long enough it may stir some memories. Sounds like we probably did 1 patrol before I got out.

Thanks for the compliment although we were not exactly the best example for behavior modeling. Anyway, sounds like everything turned out OK for you!

I got out early in August 1973, not enough time to make the winter patrol.

Merry Christmas!
