New Forum Software Installed

Post by Keith Holman » Sat May 03, 2008 4:35 pm

I've installed new forum software. Users shouldn't see a whole lot of difference in normal operations.
In order to add security to the site, the software is integrated with several other parts of the website and I am still working on re-establishing those links.
Until that is all addressed, it won't be possible to login to the Photos section. <Edit> This is now fixed, see below</edit>
We are also limited on the ways we can view the members list for now. I am actively working on correcting both of those issues.
Thanks for your patience.

What a mess! Let me send my apologies to each of you for this, especially the way it has eliminated the ability to sort the member list in any useful fashion.

What happened:
The company that provides the computer space where the site resides did a software upgrade of their own. The old version of the forum software didn't work with the new setup and we lost some of the functions we needed to keep the forum running and the spammers out. So I rushed into the upgrade with the forum software to hopefully get those functions back.

In the process, some of the custom work I had gotten done to the old software doesn't work with the new so we can't sort members; the link to the photo albums doesn't let you upload or add comments; it's incredibly difficult for our secretary (Charline Huwe) to keep the lists updated; etc.

Since I'm involved with several of these forums, they all wanted the upgrade for the added security and my real work (the one with the paycheck!) got super busy; we had to make some family/business trips, yada, yada. I just haven't been able to make the time to get this properly sorted out. I'm not looking for sympathy, just wanted to give some explanation as to what happened.

I see the light at the end of the tunnel and hope it's not a train! Bear with me a bit longer and we should begin to see some improvement in the situation soon.

Thanks!
~Keith

Finding a Shipmate by Last Name
  1. Click on Members up to the right just below the 2008 Link
  2. Click on "Find a Member" in the upper right corner.
  3. In the left hand column, find the box labelled "Last Name"
  4. Enter the first few letters of the Last Name. Note that capitals count. "holman" will return nothing. "HOLMAN" will return nothing. "Holman" will bring my name up. "Holm*" will bring up Charles Holmes, Keith Holman and anyone else whose first 4 letters are Holm
  5. Clicking on the user name will bring up links to let you Private Message (PM) or email that shipmate if we have an email for them.
This is still kind of rough but it works better than scrolling through 1250 names. I'm still working on refining and polishing that.

The link to the photos section now works with your login here. Please help with providing information for the pictures from the 2007 Reunion by entering a "comment" where you can identify the subjects/persons in the photos. Thanks.
