Eternity Smiles
Here is a poem the ladies will love. I think the Grandpas out there will like it as well. Eternity Smiles Whenever I see an infant, sweet memories flash across time: Holding my first child in my arms, Being captured by her sweet baby charms. I see little hands reaching up for mine; Smiles holding th...

Thoughts on a Rainy Day
I wrote this short poem on Oct 25, 1967 in Birmingham, Alabama. I was home on leave from Sub School. It was my twenty-second birthday and I had orders to report to the USS James Madison, SSBN627(B) in Charleston, SC on Nov 7th. I had said good-night to my girlfriend earlier and was driving around al...

Re: Bronze Letters
Thanks for the kind comments, Shipmate, It means a lot coming from a writer like you.
When we were on the 627, we knocked a hole in the "tide" a lot didn't we. Now... I agree... it is time for the TIDE to roll all the way to January 2015. ROLLLLLL TIDE ROLLLLLL!!!

Hey, KJ, I saw a video of you on UTUBE... Looks like you are still writing and picking. I would like to see some more of your songs and prose here on this forum.

Re: Missing You
Yes, Shipmates, we thought we were ordinary back then. But Time is a great teacher, and the older I get - and the more I see and hear on the news - the higher I raise my opinions of my Shipmates and the importance of what the "41 for freedom" accomplished.

Never
My last love poem got a lot of views so I think I will post another. I had been writing letters for two years to Jenny, my wife-to-be. (In another two years we would be married.) I had just completed Sub School and was coming off of 15 days leave and got to spend nearly the entire two weeks with her...

Love and Desire
Love and Desire Oh, this desire, My thoughts are cluttered with it! When I try to forget, It becomes a smoldering fire That burns deep in my breast. Is this love? Don’t confuse them; That’s what I tell myself. But what is left if I separate them, A bird without a nest? What can I do? I am totally co...

The Gift
We spent a lot of time on patrol thinking about wives, girlfriends and family. Those are the obvious things. But we also missed things that we otherwise took for granted: The sound of rain on the roof and the smell of wet pavement. The feeling of the sun on one's face in the summer. The bite of wint...

The Question
Shipmates, I started this poem on the flight over to Holy Loc to relieve the Gold crew. This was sometime in March of 1968. It was my first patrol cycle. There was a lot going on that year in the way of protests. The Vietnam War was cranking up big time, and there were protests against nuclear power...

Missing You
Missing You I long for your touch, Your breath on my hair, Not for the sensations, But for the tenderness you share. How I miss your voice, The familiar songs you sing, Not for their beauty, But for the love you bring. What do I miss most? I can’t just name one thing - Because, when I’m with you, Yo...

Bronze Letters
Greetings, Shipmates - April is National Poetry Month so I thought I would share a poem I started during my "nuc" training at the D1G prototype near Saratoga Springs, New York. They had a nice city park that I would often visit to relieve the stress of the long hours of studying and qualif...
