Trim Party

I was on the 1200 - 1800 watch in the ERUL realizing that my time in the navy was growing shorter every day and if I wanted to see a trim party I would have to do something soon. Although I had heard of a trim party I had never seen nor participated in one so I decided to give it a try. I informed e...

Legit Patrol Pin worthy of VFW membership

While checking out the website links last night I noticed that last year on October 9, 2005 the VFW decided to change their eligibility requirements to include those with a legit patrol pin as veterans worthy of VFW membership. The actual requirement wording is “SSBN Nuclear Patrol Breast Insignia” ...

Okay Goldies, Fess up

Okay Goldies, fess up - Who's the guilty culprit? It was on one of the first field days of a blue crew patrol in probably 1976 or 1977 that a poly bottle was found suspended from a cord in the bilge outboard the R11's. It had a brown liquid with the scent of apples and had some things floating aroun...

Re: I found this photo in a pile of dust

Good photo there Vic. I didn't see even a trace of a white or gray hair in that young dude's whiskers.

Hey Bob, all I can say is that we got that thing outta-there! I think it was a NAE beacon countermeasure that we shot. That was the one patrol that I don't think anyone one of us could forget - the Machinery I upper level incident, the fan room incident, and for me...passing out in the laundry.

Scheduled Flick

After watching the pie fight at the end of the movie "Bugsy Malone" I made the comment that I had always wanted to nail someone with a pie. The mid rats cook Rick Young told me that he would make the pie if he could name the target. I told him that that I would hit anyone he named as long ...

Super Bowl X Blackout

Where was the Blue Crew for Super Bowl X ? In the air flying into McGuire Air Force Base. Being a Pittsburgh Steeler fan (although outnumbered by Dallas Cowboy fans) I was looking forward to catching the end of the game in the waiting area while the plane was refueling for the leg to Charleston. On ...

6 patrols was not an uncommonly high number. I also did 6 but I remember quite a few that were aboard before me and still there after I left. Some of those include: Kelly Ray, Victor Madison, Bob Clements, Charlie Plotz, Mr. Fisk, Jim Whitmire, and Gary Rhoades. Most of the ones that their first pat...

Although I do remember us jamming the SPM into the bottom of the Cooper River, I believe that the Mud Puppy was earned in the waterway leading to King's Bay. It was not until several years later (in the early 80's) that I heard the Madison called the "Mud Puppy" by a relation that had rece...
